The 2023 vintage eloquently expresses Penfolds House Style, balancing fruit intensity with a structure poised for ageing. This makes it both an immediate pleasure and a candidate for cellaring, promising to evolve with complexity over time. Blue fruits instantly emerge, specifically elderberries, blueberries, and bilberries. Poached plums merge with the exotic spiciness of cassia bark, imparting rich flavours. A hint of meat adds depth and character to the profile. The mouthfeel is sculpted by chocolate powder tannins, which are luxurious and precise, lending a structure that is both assertive and velvety. Also present is the umami complexity of tomato consommé, enriched with piquant olive tapenade. The palate is further textured by a ferrous minerality.

Bin 311 Chardonnay truly reflects the winemakers' mantra of going where the fruit grows best and where it best suits style. Cool-climate vineyards of Tasmania, Tumbarumba, and the Adelaide Hills are Penfold's primary sources of fine quality Chardonnay. In true Bin 311 style, not unlike Yattarna, it exhibits lemon and lime aromas and a mineral acid backbone, complemented by barrel fermentation and maturation in new and seasoned oak. The 2024 release showcases purity and precision, shaped by exceptional vintage conditions. A delicate layer of talcum powder and fragrant bath salts. A touch of Persian rosewater adds an exotic lift. Imperial mandarin dust - a fine and fragrant citrus powder - is present. Struck flint contributes an elemental quality, adding a mineral note that is both sharp and refreshing. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon parcels sourced from vineyards throughout the Barossa. The fruit is fermented for up to 14 days, then aged for 12 months in a mix of French and American oak.
